About the Crochet Cup Holder Pattern:

This pattern is for a textured Tunisian crochet cup cozy that can be completed by a beginner in just a few hours! It is made with simple stitch repeats and is a perfect mindless project and makes for a great gift idea.
Skill Level: Beginner
Yarn:
Bernat Maker Home Decor in Clay (50 yards) (8.8 oz/250 g.; 317 yds/290 m; 72% cotton, 28% nylon; size 5)* This is the amount needed per cup cozy* For a set of 4 you would need a half skein. You can also use a comparable T-shirt yarn or fabric yarn.
Hooks:
- Size K 10.5 (6.5 mm) Tunisian crochet hook with a 12 in. Cord. some of my favorite Tunisian crochet hooks are the Clover Takumi Interchangeable hooks or the Denise Interchangeable Tunisian crochet hooks.
Notions:
Gauge:
- Gauge is 16 sts over 12 rows in Tunisian Simple Stitch for a 4×4 in. square
Finished Size:
- The finished sizes are:
- Coffee Cup Cozy: is 4.5 in. wide by 3 in. in length (doubled) fits a circumference of approximately 9.5 in.
- Mug Cozy: is 4.5 in. wide by 2.5 in. in length (doubled), fits a circumference of approximately 10.5 in.

- Pattern rows are Forward pass instructions.
- The following instructions are implied:
- The loop already on the hook at the beginning of the row counts as the first st.
- Always TSS in the last st of the row, being sure to work under both loops of the st.
- Return Pass: Follow the foundation row and each row with the Return Pass in the same color.
- Return Pass Instructions: Ch 1, *yarn over, pull through two loops; repeat from * until 1 loop remains on the hook.
Abbreviations:
Ch: Chain
Tss: Tunisian simple stitch
Tss2tog: Tunisian simple stitch 2 together
RetP: Return Pass -Explained above.
Sl st BLO: Slip stitch back loop only

COFFEE CROCHET CUP HOLDER PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Ch 33
Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP. (33 sts)
Row 2: *Tss2tog (1 st), Tss back into 1st st of Tss2tog (2 sts)* Rep * to last 2 sts, Tss 1, work last st as normal. Complete normal RetP (33 sts)
Row 3: Tss 1, *Tss2tog (1 st), Tss back into 1st st of Tss2tog (2 sts)* Rep * to last st, work last st as normal. Complete normal RetP (33 sts)
Rows 4 to 7: Rep rows 2 and 3. Complete normal RetP (33 sts)
Bind off. Sl st BLO around (sl st BLO, ch 1, sl st BLO) into corners. Sl st into first chain to join.
Leave a 12 in. tail and cut yarn. Turn the piece wrong side out, fold in half, and whip stitch edges together. Cut yarn and weave in all loose ends.

CROCHET MUG COZY PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS:
Note: Instructions are written for the following sizes standard (wide)

Ch 35 (41)
Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP. (35 (41) sts)
Row 2: *Tss2tog (1 st), Tss back into 1st st of Tss2tog (2 sts)* Rep * to last 2 sts, Tss 1, work last st as normal. Complete normal RetP (35 (41) sts)
Row 3: Tss 1, *Tss2tog (1 st), Tss back into 1st st of Tss2tog (2 sts)* Rep * to last st, work last st as normal. Complete normal RetP (35 (41) sts)
Rows 4 and 5: Rep rows 2 and 3. Complete normal RetP (35 (41) sts)
Bind off. Sl st BLO around (sl st BLO, ch 1, sl st BLO) into corners. Sl st into first chain to join.
For a mug cozy, do not cut yarn, ch 4, sl st into the next corner of the cozy. Leave a 6 in. tail and cut yarn. On the other short edge, sew on 1 button in the center. Weave in all loose ends.
You can also complete more or less rows to make the cozy bigger or smaller lengthwise (2 rows to make the cozy an inch longer). Or add a few stitches to change the width (4 stitches to make the cozy an inch wider (just make sure the final number is an odd number). Note that a bigger cozy may require additional yarn.
