This pattern is for a fancy Tunisian crochet fanny pack that can be completed by a beginner! It is made with just simple stitches and basic decreases, it can be completed easily in a couple of hours and is a perfect mindless project. I’ve had this design in my mind since New years eve of 2024! I finally released a YouTube tutorial right before the year ended and now I’m adding it as a free pattern here along with a PDF version in my shops! I hope you love making it as much as I loved designing it!
About the Pattern:
Skill Level: Beginner
Yarn:
Lionbrand Haute Stitches Faux Leather in Bronze– 120 yds (4.2 oz/ 120 g; 39 yds/36 m; 100% polyester; size 6)
Yarn substitutes: YarnArt Metallic Club, Hobbii Dancing Queen
Hooks:
- Size N15 (10 mm) Tunisian crochet hook with a 12 in. Cord. Check out my favorite beginner Tunisian crochet hooks here.
Notions:
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- 1 in. button
- Thread
- Sewing needle
- Adjustable shoulder strap/bag belt 24 in. at its shortest
Gauge:
- Gauge is 10 sts over 8 rows in Tunisian Simple Stitch for a 4×4 in. square
Finished Size:
- The finished bag is 9 x 5 in.

- Pattern rows are Forward pass instructions.
- The following instructions are implied:
- The loop already on the hook at the beginning of the row counts as the first st.
- Always TSS in the last st of the row, being sure to work under both loops of the st.
- Return Pass: Follow the foundation row and each row with the Return Pass in the same color.
- Return Pass Instructions: Ch 1, *yarn over, pull through two loops; repeat from * until 1 loop remains on the hook.
Abbreviations:
Ch: Chain
Tss: Tunisian simple stitch
Tss2tog: Tunisian simple stitch two together
RetP: Return Pass -Explained above.
Crochet Fanny Pack Pattern Back Panel and Flap Instructions
Ch 12
Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP. (12 sts)
Row 2: Tss across (12 sts).
Rows 3 to 16: Repeat row 2 (12 sts).
Bind off and do not cut yarn, turn the piece to work into the long edge. Pick up 16 sts along the long edge.
Tss2tog, tss across until the last 3 sts, tss2tog, work last st as normal.
Repeat the decrease row until you have 9 sts.
Bind off next 3 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch, bind off remaining stitches.
Leave a 6 in tail and cut yarn, weave in ends.
Crochet Fanny Pack Pattern Front Panel Instructions:
Ch 12
Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP. (12 sts)
Row 2: Tss across (12 sts).
Rows 3 to 16: Repeat row 2 (12 sts).
Bind off. Do not cut yarn. Align front and back panels with right sides facing out and slip stitch join.
Make a tassel and attach it to the front panel ch 1 space.
Sew on the button in the center of the front panel to align with the button loop.
Attach the adjustable shoulder strap and adjust length to your preference.
