INSPIRATION FOR THIS CROCHET BUNNY PATTERN

This design idea came from a fun campaign by Hobbii Yarns! If you search the hashtag #EasterCraftsWithHobbii on Instagram, you’ll see all the beautiful Easter crochet projects!

Thanks for sending this super fluffy yarn! I used the Hobbii Honey Bunny yarn to make a super cute bunny pouf! It’s super soft and cuddly and I loved working with this yarn!

So this project initially started off as a basket and then evolved into a bag and finally its is now a pouf. I honestly made the panels too big and it wasn’t working out! But I am happy with how it turned out and it’s a versatile project with many uses and I love how to the front panel turned out. It’s also the first time I added real blush to a project to give it those cute cheeks!

I am also excited to announce an epic giveaway by @hobbii_yarn for this challenge!! Share your versions of my basket and be sure to use the hashtag #EasterCraftsWithHobbii and tag @hobbii_yarn on April 8th for a chance to win a Hobbii Friends yarn delivery including 20 skeins of Cotton 8/4, 8/6, or 8/8 in the winners’ favorite colors. There will be a total of 3 winners and they will be announced and reposted in the @hobbii_yarn Instagram feed on April 12th. The giveaway ends on April 8th 5:59 PM (EST) so be sure to enter!

  • The following instructions are implied:
    • The loop already on the hook at the beginning of the row counts as the first st.
    • Always Tunisian simple stitch in the last st of the row, being sure to work under both loops of the st.

Pattern Notes continued…

  • Return Pass: Follow the foundation row and each row with the Return Pass in the same color unless a color change is needed.
    • Return Pass Instructions: Ch 1, *yarn over, pull through two loops; repeat from * until 1 loop remains on the hook.
  • Note: Measure your gauge swatch across unstretched and stretched. Note the two numbers and subtract to find the difference. This is how much you will need to subtract from the head circumference measurement to determine total length.
    • Example:
      • The Gauge swatch stretched is 5 in. and unstretched it is 4 in. 5 -4 = 1 in. You will need to subtract 1 in. from the head circumference measurement.
      • 21 in. head circumference – 1 in. = 20 in. This means you will need to work the piece to a total length of 20 in. Substitute this number for X in the pattern below.
      • Note: Depending on the stretchiness of yarn and head size of the toddler/child, you may want to decrease the width by 1 or 2 stitches.

How to Crochet with Fur Yarn Tunisian crochet tutorial

Materials needed to Crochet with Fur Yarn:

Denise Interchangeable Tunisian crochet hook Size 17 12.0 mm Tunisian Crochet Hook. Buy the complete set here
Yarn: Any faux fur yarn such as We Crochet Fable Fur Yarn
Contrast yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick
Clover Yarn Needle
Clover Locking Stitch Markers

My 3 Main Tips when working with Faux Fur Yarn:

1. Feel for the yarn

Make sure you feel for each stitch before working into it so you know you’re putting your hook through the right space.

2. Use a bright contrasting color yarn to hold your stitches as a lifeline.

Below you can see how Kaitlyn used a contrasting piece of yarn to indicate where each stitch is.

Here she laid the yarn back and forth across the working yarn as she created the foundation chain so that she could find the back bumps.

If it’s hard for you to do this, just feel for the stitches. It’s also okay to go into the front of the stitch if you can’t find the back bumps since it’s hard to tell the difference in stitches due to the fuzzy/fluffy nature of fur yarn! When you make the foundation chain make sure your tension is a little bit loose so the stitches are not too tight and it’s easier to go into them!

Then she weaved the yarn through the Tunisian simple stitch loops of the forward pass to create a lifeline if she accidentally drops or misses any on the forward or return pass.

Check out this Tunisian crochet YouTube tutorial for how to crochet with fur yarn. Easy hacks to follow when crocheting with fur yarn!

And this is how that looks after the return pass.

Photo credit: Kaitlyn of @kaleidostitch on Instagram, follow all of her work here.

3. Always count stitches after every row.

Make sure you count your stitches after every single row because it is very easy to lose stitches when working with fur yarn! So yes, you have to count after every single row!

You can also use locking stitch markers to see where your first and last stitch are on each row!

My Tunisian crochet square pattern is for a cookie because that’s what comes to mind when I think of the holidays. I don’t celebrate any of the major holidays around this time of year but I do love two things that are a major part of this season: baking and enjoying everyone’s decorations. I love baking yummy treats, who doesn’t? I initially started off with a sugar cookie with icing as the idea but it evolved into this chocolate cookie and I am so happy with the way it turned out and my hubby found the perfect Pepperidge Farms Peppermint Thins to go with the square! If you were looking for the perfect crochet cookie squares, you’ve found them. I think the Tunisian Cookie Squares would look so cute even as a banner as part of your holiday decor.
