My Tunisian crochet square pattern is for a cookie because that’s what comes to mind when I think of the holidays. I don’t celebrate any of the major holidays around this time of year but I do love two things that are a major part of this season: baking and enjoying everyone’s decorations. I love baking yummy treats, who doesn’t? I initially started off with a sugar cookie with icing as the idea but it evolved into this chocolate cookie and I am so happy with the way it turned out and my hubby found the perfect Pepperidge Farms Peppermint Thins to go with the square! If you were looking for the perfect crochet cookie squares, you’ve found them. I think the Tunisian Cookie Squares would look so cute even as a banner as part of your holiday decor.

Pattern Notes Continued.

The following instructions are implied:
- The loop already on the hook at the beginning of the row counts as the first st.
- Always Tunisian simple stitch in the last st of the row, being sure to work under both loops of the st.

Return Pass: Follow the foundation row and each row with the Return Pass in the same color unless a color change is needed.
- Return Pass Instructions: Ch 1, *yarn over, pull through two loops; repeat from * until 1 loop remains on the hook.

Ch 35 with O

Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Then, complete a normal RetP. (35 sts)

Rows 2 to 29: Follow color chart (on page 6) in Tss. The stitch count should be 35 at the end of each row. If you would like an 8 x 8 in. square to match the rest of the squares in the CAL, follow the written instructions then follow the instructions for the dc edging.

Finishing Touches:

Bind off, leaving a 6 in. tail for all colors, cut yarn and weave in all ends. With the right side of the square facing you, join Chocolate yarn and dc evenly along one long edge. If you’re looking for a fun crochet skirt pattern to work on, I have just the pattern for you! I created this skirt with some left-over yarn I had. I intended it to be a simple color block skirt so the only stitch used is the Tunisian simple stitch for the skirt itself. Then I decided it would be nice to have some ribbing at the top for a drawstring closure. Before I finished up the skirt, I had an idea to add some textured afterthought pockets and I think that is my favorite part of the design! The Tunisian honeycomb stitch is my absolute favorite of all the Tunisian crochet stitches. I also added some picot edging to add a touch of fancy.

I love that this skirt can be dressed up or down and can be made in any color combination! The best part is that this pattern is easy enough that it can be completed by people who are just getting started with Tunisian crochet!

Important Features

My favorite part about these wooden crochet hooks is the smooth finish. The main component of these hooks is strong layers of laminated birch. I cannot get over how smooth they feel in my hand.

There is even a thumb rest which allows a good grip when crocheting. I also love the weight of these hooks. They aren’t super lightweight but they aren’t super heavy either which is perfect for small and big projects!

The join is very smooth which means yarn will not snag on the hooks. The compact and portable case is perfect for on-the-go travel crochet! The end caps are high quality and the cable keys ensure a snug fit. This ensures that the cable and end caps don’t come undone while you’re crocheting. I highly recommend using the cable keys for screwing and unscrewing the cables and end caps. The cables are very flexible but also thick and sturdy which makes them perfect for heavier projects like shawls and blankets!

One thing that is a little bit different for me, especially as a Tunisian crocheter, is the rounded head. I have a sharp head on my other Tunisian crochet hooks which makes it easy to pick up loops as I do my forward pass. With this set, picking up loops for the foundation row is kind of hard. But once I get beyond the foundation row, picking up stitches is a little bit easier. It’s still different from the sharp head crochet hooks but I think with practice I’ll get the hang of it! The rest of the features make up for this one difference though so I’m not complaining!

How do these work?

All you have to do is attach one of the interchangeable cables to the end of the Radiant Interchangeable Crochet Hook by screwing it in place. Next, attach the cable cap to the opposite end of the cable to keep your stitches securely on the cable. You can mix and match a large range of interchangeable hook sizes with cables available in 21″ all the way up through 57″. This means you can create projects ranging from scarves to garments and blankets.

Main color – Bernat Blanket Yarn in Taupe (88 yards) (3.5 oz/100 g.; 232 yds/212 m; 100% polyester; bulky size 5)
Fur color – Lion Brand Yarn in Baked Alaska (48 yards) (3.5 oz/100 g.; 64 yds/ 60 m; 100% polyester; super bulky size 6)
Embroidery color – Lily Sugar N Cream in White (approximately 10 yards) (2.5 oz/ 70.9 g; 120 yds/109 m; 100% cotton; worsted size 4)

Notions:
Scissors

2.5 in. Ribbon (Note: Optional, you could also opt to crochet a bowtie like my Striped Tunisian Bow-Tie)

About the Pattern:

This is a beginner level Tunisian crochet pattern that you can complete in a few hours. The pattern uses bulky yarn and works up super quick and makes for a perfect gift for the little ones in your life. You can make it with Bernat Blanket yarn and Lion Brand Yarn Go For Faux.

Initially, I made this bunny with Michael’s Sweet Snuggles yarn which is a super soft and squishy yarn. I liked the overall look but found it to be a bit bulky and the yarn is not easily accessible. It would also require a larger hook.

I decided to try it with Bernat Blanket yarn since Bernat blanket is a more accessible and readily available yarn and I love how it turned out! The finished bunny measures 18 inches from ears to feet and 10 inches across from one arm to the other arm.

You will make the pattern as follows:

I have divided the following steps into three parts in videos I have uploaded to YouTube.

Make the face and embroider with size 4 worsted weight yarn in a contrasting color.
Continue making the neck and body.
Continue making a mirror image of the neck and body (so it will be one long piece that will be folded over and sewn while stuffing with polyfill).
Make legs with the Bernat Blanket yarn.
Crochet arms and sew onto the body.
Work ears and weave in all ends!

My favorite part about this set is that it comes with such a practical and organized case. There is a spot to store and keep each item safe!

The Tunisian crochet hook is made so beautifully. The bamboo is so smooth and yarn just glides over it. The head of the hook is not too sharp or too blunt. It is just right for picking up stitches and working a variety of stitch types!

Just look at how beautiful these stoppers are! They aren’t just beautiful to look at but they are practical. They stay put once you screw them on. I haven’t had any issues with stoppers unscrewing or falling off, no matter what the weight of my project is. I am currently working on a chunky cowl with the size L hook and a 36 in. cord using Lion Brand Woolease Thick and Quick and I’m halfway through and the stopper is still in place!

The locking system for these interchangeable Tunisian crochet hooks is so intuitive. As soon as I got the set, I opened it up and started playing around with it. I didn’t have to read the package to know what to do. Next, I just grabbed one of the hooks and grabbed a cord and screwed it in place! I tested it out by giving it a little pull and it was locked in place!

After locking the Tunisian crochet hook and cord together, I went on to attach the stopper in the same way, I just had to screw it to the other end of the cord. Then I picked up my yarn and started crocheting! My stitches feel like butter over the seamless joints between the parts and I love that. I recently invested in two very valuable toolsets. I bought the Denise Interchangeable Crochet Hooks set and the Denise Interchangeable Knitting Needles set. These sets were the most affordable, practical, and durable! I purchased each set for around $50.00 which means that I got 2 sets for around $100.00. Considering that bamboo equivalents are a $100.00+ per set, these Denise sets offer great value for the price!

What I like most about these sets are the organized and neat snap-in-place cases that the pieces come in. There is no chance of losing any of the pieces. Also, the cords don’t get bent out of shape over time because they are made with a thick and durable material. Whether you are working with the hooks or the needles, they are very smooth and do not snag on any type of yarn!

The crochet hooks can be used for regular crochet by adding the shortest cord and a stopper to mimic a normal crochet hook. They can also be used as Afghan or Tunisian crochet hooks by joining more cords for length. The knitting needles can be used as straight needles in the same way by adding shorter cords with stoppers or by connecting a pair of needles to both ends of a cord for knitting in the round.

There are lots of options for cord lengths. Also, the cords, extenders, and caps/stoppers in both sets are interchangeable. There are also multiple color options available. Also, the case is the size of a book and can easily fit in your wip bag.

The best part is the locking system!

The best part is the twist-and-lock system! You just align the hole at the end of the hook or needle with the hole at the end of the cord by twisting. Voila, that’s it!

I have proof that this is a great locking system. The cords never came undone when I was knitting my first holiday knit sweater (designed by Ashleigh Kiser of Sewrella). This sweater was made with the new Color Made Easy yarn by Lion Brand which is a size 5 bulky weight yarn! Once I attached the body and sleeves, I was afraid the cords would come undone because it was such a heavy sweater! I was relieved when I was completing the yoke and nothing happened!
