The Tunisian Simple Stitch really worked well with this yarn. Just look at those colors and stitches *in love*!
Adding the heart button and tassel gave the perfect finishing touch!

This year I decided to make a modified Tunisian crochet version of my Foxy Scarf and Cowl set. I released this knitting pattern last year and now I have a crochet pattern for all my crochet friends! I am so excited to release this pattern as part of a fun Fall Favorites blog hop. This blog hop is by the Design Create Repeat blog.
Anytime I design a mommy and me set, I always think of subtle ways of matching. Mommy doesn’t want to look like a kid right?! I’ve made sure to keep things subtle by leaving out the eyes on the adult triangle scarf. I think it looks perfect! This foxy pattern is great because it is a fast crochet scarf made with size 6 bulky weight yarn and a 9.0 mm size 13 Tunisian crochet hook (here is my favorite set of Tunisian crochet hooks). I experienced bullying in various forms while I was growing up. Sometimes it was hurtful words and other times I remember being hurt physically. I used to be shamed for the way I looked and for being the only South Asian kid in the class. That’s why this initiative means a lot to me. This initiative is relevant to the backlash POC makers are currently experiencing for speaking out against injustice.
This design comes from a place of unity. It’s important to “put yourself in another person’s shoes” so you can see the world from their perspective. Similarly, we have to “try each other’s hats on” to truly understand one another. This is the only way we can show each other compassion and move forward.
Disclaimer: This pattern has not been tested so please let me know if you find any errors! I’ll fix them right away!
The way the pattern is written, the colorwork will be on the front of the hat and there is no shaping involved. It is a tubular/cat-ear type hat as modeled by me! Bub’s hat is the first prototype. That’s why the heart is made with both contrasting colors which were difficult to crochet. As a result, I decided to use one color to make the heart!

I came up with this super easy free crochet bow pattern recently as I was thinking of ways to use up my scrap yarn. It can be intimidating to try a new craft so I want to make it easy for you. I would like you to try this super simple pattern to get used to and fall in love with Tunisian crochet! Similarly, I have a normal crochet version of the bow below if you prefer the simple crochet stitches! This bow can be attached to anything. For example, you can attach it to a hair-tie, headband, or a bow-tie. I decided to turn it into an adjustable bow-tie for Bubs! The double crochet belt makes it easy to adjust to any size!

This adjustable bow-tie pattern is a great beginner project and can easily be made with a straight 4 mm crochet hook. Make it in a solid color or as a striped version! TSS – Tunisian Simple Stitch HDC – Half Double Crochet Sl St – Slip Stitch St(s) – Stitch(es) Sc – Single Crochet Ch – Chain
Tunisian Crochet Bow Pattern:
Using a 4 mm Tunisian crochet hook, with white yarn chain 20 – make foundation row.
Row 2: TSS across with red. Normal return pass.
Row 3: Pick up white yarn and TSS across. Normal return pass.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 till you have completed 11 rows.
Bind off with white yarn.
Using metallic crochet thread with the right side of the finished piece facing you, sl. st into the first st along the long edge (20 st.), and sc around. Each time you get to a corner, ch 1, and continue sc around along short edge (12 st.). When you’ve reached the start, join with the first st by doing a sl st. Similarly, repeat one more round of sc.
Weave in all loose ends.
Bow Tie – Adjustable Band
With navy blue, Chain 55
Row 1: Ch 2 and DC into each st for the next 54 sts.
Leaving a 6 in. tail, cut yarn.
Assemble the Bow-Tie
Take a 38 in. piece of blue yarn and cinch center of bow and sew in place.
With the adjustable band placed behind the cinched bow (right side facing you), Wrap the 38 in. piece of yarn around the bow and belt multiple times. After that, when there are about five inches of yarn remaining, stop wrapping and weave in the remaining yarn tail into the back of the bow.
Sew one 3/4 in. button onto the end of the adjustable belt (the end with yarn tails/starting point). Sew the second 3/4 in. button 2 inches from the first button.
Adjust the bow-tie to fit a range of baby to adult sizes by placing the buttons through the spaces between the double crochets.
Using 4.5 mm crochet hook, chain 20. Follow rows 1 to 4 as outlined below:
Firstly, Ch 1, HDC across with white and turn work.
Secondly, join red yarn and sl st., ch 1, HDC over and around the white yarn while carrying the white yarn in the back and HDC across till the end of the row, turn work.
Thirdly, with white yarn, work HDC over and around the red yarn while carrying the red yarn in the back and HDC across till the end of the row, turn work.
Finally, continue steps 2 and 3 while alternating colors and holding the non-working yarn in the back. Complete a total of seven rows.
With the right side facing you, sc around with metallic crochet thread as mentioned above. Make an adjustable band and cinch and sew bow and strap together as mentioned above.
It’s here! A crochet baby dress that I designed all on my own! When I started working on this design, I didn’t know if it would end up fitting an actual baby. The first version I made was something that would probably only fit a doll. I persisted though because I had promised myself at the beginning of the year to create more girl designs.
I looked at it and tried to justify the size and told myself that I could make it work! Then, after a whole lot of convincing myself, I realized that if I am going to get serious about designing I need to start looking at tech editing as an investment rather than an expense! I asked around and everyone recommended Emily from Fiat Fiber Arts. I reached out to her and started discussing the design. She helped me figure out the math and become more confident in my designing process. She is an amazing tech editor and mentor! I absolutely loved working with her!
Even after figuring out the math, I was praying really hard that the dress would actually fit the respective sizes in the pattern. This is where my testers came and blew me away. They sent me pictures of the dress on AN ACTUAL BABY! This is when things got real!
So today, I present to you, my Tunisian Pixie Dress! It can be made in sizes 0-3 months all the way up to 18-24 months (16” to 20” chest circumference). This pattern is for a Tunisian crochet baby dress that is worked flat and seamed. Video and photo tutorials are included as well as a schematic and a full sizing chart along with written instructions. Tell me a little bit about yourself and your business.
On the mom side of things, I have 2 kids (1.5 and almost 3). I am a veteran and my husband is still in the AF, so we move around a lot. It’s a challenge to parent without family around. So that’s a big part of things too. I’m a meteorologist by trade, and kind of as a tangent to that I’m a huge Earth lover and maybe a little bit of a tree hugger. I just started blogging regularly this past year, mostly crochet inspiration & patterns but also some other DIY things (I’m kinda big on holistic stuff). Baby blankets are my jam though! My patterns are available in my Etsy/Ravelry shops, but I don’t sell finished products because I don’t have the time! However I do have a life goal of doing a craft fair.
How many years have you been knitting/crocheting for?
I’ve been crocheting for a little over 20 years, which makes me sound really old, ha! When I was 11 years old, I learned from my grandfather’s wife. I made a blanket for my baby cousin, which I actually saw in recent years and and let me tell you it’s pretty horrific! But I’m honored that she kept it. She’s in college now. My friend taught me to knit a few years ago, but I haven’t explored that too much yet.
What are your current WIPs?
Always so many – I’ve been working on All About Ami’s Granite Cape for almost 3 years now! It’s almost done :). I mostly like to come up with my own stuff though. I’m working on a new baby blanket, a blanket for a friend’s May baby, and a temperature blanket that will represent my daughter’s first year of life. Clearly my fave thing is making baby blankets!. There is also a half finished throw blanket that honestly I probably won’t pick up again until Fall.
What is your favorite thing to design and why (Spoiler alert: it’s baby blankets)?
Blankets are really my jam. I especially love baby blankets, because I love trying to incorporate the receiver’s nursery theme and personality, etc. Since blankets are just simple rectangles, they are like a blank canvas and a challenge for making something interesting and worthy.
What are your goals for this year?
I want to put out 10 new crochet patterns. I’m working furiously on creating the projects now before I get more busy with the kids. So far I’ve put out 2, have 4 in progress and 4 more planned out. Most are blankets 🙂 I hope I can get to them all!
How do you balance mom-life and making?
This is a huge challenge and the reason I’ve been working on my Granite Cape for almost 3 years. My son is almost 3…coincidence? lol. There are a few things I’ve realized recently though. First, if you want something bad enough you will make time for it. Maybe “find” time is the better answer. I literally carry my project bag around the house with me, and the moment my kids are playing self sufficiently (and not wrestling each other) I pull it out and make some progress. It also helps when I bring it with me everywhere I go because car naps are a real thing with my 1 yr old.
Also, I know I need to be intentional with my time and not go down the rabbit hole on Instagram or get caught up with the TV. That’s time that can be used effectively to get things done. It’s also important to have intentional rest time. I’m a huge introvert and I neeeeed to rest. I’m also 30 weeks pregnant – yikes. What I still need to work on is balance. Balance is a big one for me. Trying to balance the “work at home thing” and dedicating time to work while trying to be an attentive parent is challenging . Mom life comes with so much guilt, so I try to make sure I’m not taking away from my job being a stay at home mom. Some days I just don’t get to do what I want but that’s life (preaching to myself here!).
One piece of advice for fellow mama makers?
Just be understanding of your limits. It’s true that you can make this work, but maybe you won’t grow quite as fast as you want to, or maybe you’ll have a lot of setbacks. But that’s okay. Your priority is your family. Don’t make excuses for not reaching goals, but give yourself some grace because momming isn’t easy and you’re doing the best you can.
Here is one of Nicolle’s beautiful baby blankets. This is called the “Sweet Georgia” baby blanket, which she made for a Georgia girl. It’s an infinite granny square with a scalloped border and ribbon/bow, and definitely has an heirloom quality to it. She loves the intricacy of it while still having a timeless feel to it. This was the first baby blanket she made after taking a long hiatus moving to Germany and having kids, and it’s extra special to her because the mama she made it for had tried long and hard for her baby girl. I got inspired since Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. The Petite Wool by We Are Knitters is so fluffy – it feels like crocheting with a cloud! This yarn has been sitting in my stash for about a year (I know I’m crazy). I want to make more girly things in the new year, so here’s my first girly design! This is the perfect yarn and the perfect soft colors for the look I wanted to achieve. Repeat rows 2 to 26 two more times for toddler size. For child and adult sizes, continue repeating rows 2 to 26 till you have the desired length.
After completing the last row, sl st in each loop to bind off.
Add fringe: Holding both strands of Color A and Color B together measure 8 in. and cut – repeat this 25 times. Attach fringe to every other loop.
