This pattern is for a textured chunky beginner-friendly crochet + Tunisian crochet scarf. It’s the perfect addition to your Fall accessories and will help you practice the basic Tunisian crochet stitches! The best part is that it works up super fast so it’s great for gift making! The sample is made in the adult size and the length is on the short side but length can be customized easily by completing more or less rows.

Skill Level: Beginner
Yarn:
Big Twist Hush in Wine, 210 yards for adult, approximately 150 yards for child size (Size 5 bulky weight; 10.5 oz/300 g; 219 yards/ 201 m; 100% polyester)
Hook:
- Size 10.0 mm Tunisian crochet hook at least 12 in. long or with 8 in. cord, I used my Furls Kingsnake Tunisian crochet hook, currently these hooks are out of stock, I also love using my Denise Interchangeable hooks, check them out here or my Clover Takumi Interchangeable Tunisian crochet hooks, check them out here.
Notions:
Gauge:
- Gauge is 12 sts over 8 rows in Tunisian Simple Stitch for a 4 x 4 in. square with a 10.0 mm Tunisian crochet hook
Finished Size:
- Adult: 55 in. long by 7 in. wide (with short tassels)
- Child: 36 in. long by 5 in. wide (with short tassels)

How to Bind off in Tunisian crochet
- Pattern rows are Forward pass instructions.
- The following instructions are implied:
- The loop already on the hook at the beginning of the row counts as the first st.
- Always Tunisian simple stitch in the last st of the row, being sure to work under both loops of the st.
- Return Pass: Follow the foundation row and each row with the Return Pass in the same color unless a color change is needed.
- Return Pass Instructions: Ch 1, *yarn over, pull through two loops; repeat from * until 1 loop remains on the hook.

Abbreviations:
Ch: Chain
Tss: Tunisian simple stitch
Tps: Tunisian purl stitch
RetP: Return Pass -Explained above

Pattern is written for adult and child sizes with child size in parenthesis (child)
Ch 20 (14)
Foundation row
Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP.
Row 2: Tss, (Tps, Tss)* rep* across
Row 3: Tps, (Tss, Tps)* rep* across
Rows 4 to 6: Rep Rows 2 and 3
Rows 7 to 11: Tss across
Repeat rows 2 to 11 until the piece measures 55 (36) in. from the foundation row. Bind off leaving a 6 in. tail. Weave in loose ends. See below for how the stitches should look.
Add fringe or tassels. For short tassels:
Taking a 6 in. piece of yarn add fringe in every other stitch across. Comb through the fringe and cut to desired length to create short tassels as seen on the finished scarf.
