No worries, today I have a free skinny scarf pattern to share with you. You can make this scarf pattern with scrap yarn in any color size 5 bulky weight yarn, I used some wooly bobs and bits that were lying around from a test knit I recently completed. The Scraptastic Skinny Scarf is a great crochet stashbuster and an easy crochet scarf pattern so you can get your mindless crochet and Netflix on! It’s the perfect beginner Tunisian crochet pattern to get started with!

About this Scrap Yarn Skinny Scarf Pattern:

Skill Level: Beginner  

Yarn:

Col A- Lion Brand Yarn Scarfie in Cream and Black 153 yards (Bulky weight size 5; 312 yds/285 m; 150 g/5.3 oz; 78% acrylic, 22% wool)

Col B- We Are Knitters The Petite Wool in Ivory 40 yards (Bulky weight size 5; 153 yds/ 140 m; 100 g/3.5 oz; 100% wool)

Col C- We are Knitters The Petite Wool in Forest Green 49 yards (Bulky weight size 5; 153 yds/140 m; 100 g/3.5 oz; 100% wool)

Hooks:

Notions: 

Gauge:

  • Gauge is 17 sts over 10 rows in Tunisian honeycomb stitch for a 4 x 4 in. square

Finished Size:

  • The finished size is 58 in. long by 5 in. wide.

Pattern Notes:

This design is for a Tunisian crochet textured scrap yarn skinny scarf crochet pattern. It’s the perfect mindless project to practice Tunisian crochet and learn some new Tunisian crochet stitches!

  • Pattern rows are Forward pass instructions.
  • The following instructions are implied: 
    • The loop already on the hook at the beginning of the row counts as the first st. 
    • Always Tunisian simple stitch in the last st of the row, being sure to work under both loops of the st.
  • Return Pass: Follow the foundation row and each row with the Return Pass in the same color unless a color change is needed.
    • Return Pass Instructions: Ch 1, *yarn over, pull through two loops; repeat from * until 1 loop remains on the hook.

Abbreviations:

Sl st: Slip stitch
Ch: Chain
Tss: Tunisian simple stitch
Tps: Tunisian purl stitch
RetP: Return Pass -Explained above
Sc: Single crochet


Pattern Instructions:

With Col A Ch 25

Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP. (25 sts) 

Row 2: *(Tss, Tps) Rep * across.  (25 sts)

Row 3: *(Tps, Tss) Rep * across. (25 sts)

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for 17 inches.

Join Col B and rep rows 2 and 3 for 8 in.

Join Col C and rep rows 2 and 3 for 11 in.

With Col A again and rep rows 2 and 3 for 14 in.

Bind off and cut yarn. Add 4 in. fringe along the short edges.

Ch 12 and rep rows 2 and 3 for 3.5 in. Sc around working (Sc, Ch 1, Sc) into corners (work 4 rounds of Sc) Sl st into first st. Leave a long tail for sewing pocket onto scarf (30 in). Sew on either end. The final measurement of the scarf is 58 in. x 5 in.
