Recently I got to design a really cute cat bed for a fun blog event and I loved how it turned out! I don’t own a cat but I got to gift it to a really good friend of mine and our favorite cat friend Archie! When I gifted it to my friend she mentioned that cats usually like flat surfaces so your cat may or may not like the pillow or cushion insert. Archie was not a big fan so we ended up taking it out! It’s super fun to make since it only uses two pattern repeats! It can be completed in a few hours and I’ve included a full video tutorial!

Col A – Bernat Maker in Steel Blue (793 yards) (8.8 oz/250 g.; 317 yds/290 m; 72% cotton, 28% nylon; size 5) You can also use a comparable T-shirt yarn or fabric yarn.
Col B – Bernat Maker Home Decor in Cream (159 yards) (8.8 oz/250 g.; 317 yds/290 m; 72% cotton, 28% nylon; size 5) You can also use a comparable T-shirt yarn or fabric yarn.
Hooks:
- Size N15 (10 mm) Tunisian crochet hook with a 12 in. Cord, get a full set of Denise Interchangeable Tunisian hooks here.
Notions:
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
- Polyfil stuffing or standard size cushion or pillow (26 x 20 in.)
Gauge:
- Gauge is 16 sts over 12 rows in Tunisian Simple Stitch for a 4×4 in. square
Finished Size:
- The finished size is 26 x 20 x 4 in.
Pattern Notes:
This pattern is for a textured tunisian crochet cat bed that can be completed by a beginner! It is made with two simple stitch repeats, the bed can be completed easily in a few hours and is a perfect mindless project and makes for a great gift idea for any cute cats in your life.

How to Single Crochet
- Pattern rows are Forward pass instructions.
- The following instructions are implied:
- The loop already on the hook at the beginning of the row counts as the first st.
- Always TSS in the last st of the row, being sure to work under both loops of the st.
- Return Pass: Follow the foundation row and each row with the Return Pass in the same color.
- Return Pass Instructions: Ch 1, *yarn over, pull through two loops; repeat from * until 1 loop remains on the hook.
Abbreviations:
Ch: Chain
Tss: Tunisian simple stitch
Tps: Tunisian purl stitch
RetP: Return Pass -Explained above.
Sc: Single crochet

Side Panel Instructions:
Ch 58
Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP. (58 sts)
Row 2: Tss, (Tps, Tss)* rep* across (58 sts).
Row 3: Tps, (Tss, Tps)* rep* across (58 sts).
Rows 4 to 30: Repeat rows 2 and 3.
Bind off.
Leave a 24 in. tail and cut yarn.
Repeat 3 more times to create 3 more panels.
Base Instructions:
Ch 58
Row 1 (Foundation Row): Pick up a loop in the back bump of each chain. Complete normal RetP. (58 sts)
Row 2: Tss, (Tps, Tss)* rep* across (58 sts).
Row 3: Tps, (Tss, Tps)* rep* across (58 sts).
Rows 4 to 45: Repeat rows 2 and 3.
Bind off.
Leave a 24 in. tail and cut yarn.
Assemble and align panels in a rough cube shape and sew together with right sides facing out. See schematic below for reference (lay pieces flat as shown and sew along dotted lines).
Border Instructions:
Join Col B yarn into the corner of bed, sc, ch1, sc into corner, sc around and complete sc, ch1, sc into each corner. Sl st to join into the starting corner.
Weave in loose ends.
Take 4 24 in. pieces of Col B yarn and set aside. Bunch up corners to fit the form of the cushion, pillow, or polyfil stuffing or to a size that will comfortably fit your cat and place a tie around each corner. Optional: place big tassels on each corner to embellish the cat bed.
